07:38 pm - Love List - New York

I've decided to compile a list of everything I love about and am looking forward to in NYC.  A love list, an expression of gratitude and appreciation.

*East coast attitude.  I really love the direct honesty and vivacious energy of east coasters.  This is abundant in NY & I actually find people there almost as friendly, in their own way, as here in small town Arcata.

*Architecture.  I am ever so in love with the brick and the stone and the OLD.  This love comes from living in Philly for a year.  Visiting Philly last year actually moved to me to tears walking about all the beautiful streets in old town, by the museums, south street, and around(we clocked in MILES that day).

*Being close to Philly, and to Boston, and Montreal!! Going to visit Montreal for the first time in late Spring/Summer (maybe Mutek for Rhett)

*Being closer to Key West & europe & all around massively cheaper airfaires than from Arcata.

*Music, music, music.  Every style and flavor practically every night of the week.  And plenty of top acts for free and/or cheap.
*Art, art, art.  On the streets & in the galleries 'n ze museums.  Appearances that don't make it anywhere else in the US.

*Peruvian/Soul food at Raw..place in Brooklyn
*Pure Food and Wine, my mecca.

*Practically every single person I ever met during my brief yet life-changing stint at Hampshire college (& Hampshire kids are the greatest) lives in NYC.

*It is known as and for many reasons feels like "the center of the world"

*Most apartments allow pets
*Seemingly all apartments come with hardwood floors
*I want an apartment with rooftop access!! & someday killer views <3 <3 <3
*OMG exposed brick.  Someday you will be in my apartment.

*My brother is going to live there at least through August, and it will rock to be in the city together.

*I will not look so out of place as I usually do when I leave the house dressed as I normally dress...
*People have style for miles and miles.  I dig the aesthetics of people in NY, because almost everyone puts in some kind of effort.  Arcata...not so much.

*There is an energy that pulsates through this city - I felt it very distinctly living there this last July, most so after I'd returned home and was going through withdrawals from said energy.
*The water tastes damn good from the tap.
*The people that live in the area are usually there for a reason.  There is more of an air of success and excellence and drive, passion.  This is especially in contrast to Arcata where seemingly all anyone does for a living is 215.  It's gotten old.  Yes, I know a handufl of driven passionate working people but they are the exception.  I truly get the sense that in NY, this is the more the "rule".  You know, the whole "work hard, play hard" cliche about the place.  I love it, because I'm just as passionate about what I do and I want to be immersed in the same.

*...more to come.

Two of my favorite new pieces of clothing, both from the incredible, unimitable Flashback Vintage. If you've never been, you should ask me about that place sometime, beyond the amazing finds they have for cheap there is some real character in that place.

Multi-shade grey faux furt coat - J Berger Furs, Santa Rosa - don't remember era
Beaded/Rhinestone cardigan sweater (with real grommets on the back) - designed by Mary Barr, Fall River Knitting Mills (50's I think)

Wore this out to get vegan chocolate ice cream (coconut based & agave sweetened, yes) from Arcata Scoop, then grocery shopping, then a walk in Azalea Park topped up with a bourbon barrel stout from Six Rivers.
